Thena C. Crowder Early Childhood Diagnostic and Special Education Center staff are dedicated to providing a range of early childhood services in a warm, inviting atmosphere.  Children learn best in a safe place where their basic needs are met consistently and that is our goal at Thena!

Thena C. Crowder has a learning partnership with the University of Miami’s Education Department to enhance our strategies to support our students’ language development.  Faculty and graduate students are working to provide professional development and collaboratively learn with the teachers at Thena throughout the spring.  Additionally, parent focus groups have been held so that we can build on child and family strengths to support language and social development.  Our focus on language comes from the knowledge that language skills are crucial for future academic success and together, we can make a difference.

Did you know that Thena participates in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program?  We do!  It means that our children receive extra helpings of fresh fruit and/or veggies three days per week!  The children are learning about healthy eating and getting to try some new things.  We’ve had mini-kiwis, melon, tomatoes, green peppers, apples, starfruit and oranges—just to name a few.  Be sure to ask your child about their favorites!
